Barrier Material: New PEN Copolyester and Oxyclear

Tuesday, September 9, 2025

2:05 p.m. to 2:35 p.m.

(see full conference schedule)

Presentation Description:

Indorama Ventures Ltd (IVL) owns the only large scale commercial Naphthalate Di-Carboxylate (NDC) Plant globally and is the only company that offers a Reliable Supply of Naphthalate Co-Polymers (PENCos), as well as Polyethylene Naphthalate (PEN) Homopolymer.

PENCos have good passive barrier for Oxygen, CO2, and Water Vapor. NDC addition provides higher hot-fill temperatures, as Tg increases linearly from ~78°C (PET Tg) to 125°C (PEN Tg) as NDC content increases. Naphthalate addition also allows very good UV blocking characteristics and has shown improved caustic wash resistance in packaging applications.

Background and data of PENCos and PEN will be discussed during the presentation.
