Session 1B - Blow Molding Enchancement

3:15 p.m. to 3:45 p.m.

(see full conference schedule)

Presentation Description:

PET has been the material of choice for retail rigid packaging for many years, and in the recent past it entered the commercial packaging market. With unique capabilities for the production of PET jerrycans and drums, PET has recently started claiming part of the industrial packaging market by replacing HDPE containers.

This presentation will discuss a new production system that enables PET to extend its reach even further, for applications of up to 1,500 L capacity, opening new markets for bulk packing and storage. This revolutionary production method, combined with PET’s unique properties (mechanical strength, easy recyclability, transparency, smooth and glossy surface, etc) provides opportunities for very cost-effective and sustainable solutions for very large containers. Examples of such containers are:

1. Water storage tanks of 500, 1,000 and 1,500 litres, replacing roto-moulded or blow-
    moulded polyethylene tanks.

2. 1,000 Litre IBC bottles, replacing blow moulded HDPE IBC bottles for both new IBC’s and
     reconditioning of used IBC’s.

3. PET liners for returnable (Foldable / Nestable) rigid packaging of up to 1,000 litres, for
     liquids packaging suitability.

For all the above applications there are substantial weight savings when using PET, resulting in large cost benefits as well as very significant sustainability benefits

Speaker Biography:

Born in Cyprus in 1959, Constantinos is married and has 3 sons. Two out of his three sons are Mechanical Engineers, graduated from Cambridge University and are currently working at CYPET Technologies.

Constantinos studied Chemical Engineering at Cambridge University UK, and then got an MBA from Carnegie–Mellon University, in the US.

He has been working in the plastics field since 1984, when he joined a plastics industry in the UAE as general manager. In 1991 he became managing director and in 1994 group technical director.

In 2000 Constantinos settled in Cyprus, taking the management of the family business, M. Sideris & Son ltd, suppliers of machinery, auxiliary equipment and raw materials to the plastics industry.

Having conceived a new, innovative process for the production of PET bottles and jars, Constantinos started CYPET Technologies Ltd, to patent, develop and commercialize the new CYPET process.

The company went commercial in 2014, and during the five years that elapsed since then, CYPET machines have been sold globally to 15 countries on all 5 continents. Also the CYPET team, under the direction of Constantinos, has developed unique PET containers that only CYPET machines can produce, extending the range of products for the global PET industry.

True to the company’s vision of adding value through innovation, two additional patents were granted, two new patents are pending and three product design registrations were done. In 2018, CYPET was awarded the prestigious Cyprus Innovation Award, presented to Constantinos by the President of Cyprus.
