Presentation: Green Top Refugee Housing

Refugees must leave their homes and communities due to conflicts and natural disasters. The less fortunate currently house themselves with canvas tents and scavenged debris. The Green Top Refugee Housing will be a customizable and reusable product to serve as temporary housing. The goal of this product will be to provide temporary housing for as many refugees as possible displaced from war and natural disasters. The blow-molded walls will provide shelter from the elements. The walls will be hollow and can be filled with sand to keep them stationary for when winds blow. This presentation will discuss the process of creating a blow molded wall and assembly of the shelter. This involves the needed research, decision of material, calculations, as well as descriptions of the product and mold.

Speaker Biography:

Evan Quinn is a current student at Penn State Behrend studying Plastics Engineering Technology. He has been involved with active life within the campus and worked as an intern for several locations including Port Erie Plastics, Bausch and Lomb, and the Penn State material research lab. Evan plans to finish his education and utilize what he has learned to benefit the workforce.

Benjamin Dobson is a senior at Penn State Behrend for Plastics Engineering, graduating in the fall. He really enjoys trying to create and build new things. The design process of blow molding technology is his favorite part in the field. Getting to do projects like this is exactly why he wanted to become an engineer.

Jonah Shafer is a senior at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, majoring in Plastics Engineering Technology and minoring in Supply Chain Management. Jonah will be graduating in December of 2023.
