Presentation Description:

This presentation will provide an overview of the different type of extruders, screw designs, feed block/barrel designs used in blow molding applications using illustrations and diagrams.

 

  • Screw designs for both smooth bore and grooved feed extrusion
  • Feed throat / barrel design for grooved feed extrusion
  • Feed throat / barrel design for smooth bore extrusion

Speaker Biography:

Walter Smith has worked for New Castle/Xaloy Industries for 28 years as a design engineer, designing extrusion, injection screws, and complete extrusion systems. Walt has now worked for Nordson PPS/Xaloy LLC, for the last 8 years as a Senior Extrusion Application Engineer.

He has authored and co-authored many technical papers and presentations for SPE. Walter has designed many screws for extrusion and injection molding applications, for a wide variety of resins and processes. He holds co-patents in the area of extrusion screw design, and mixer design.

Walter has been a member of SPE since 1990 and has served on the board of directors of the Injection Molding Division of SPE.
