SPE Blow Molding Division School Grant Program

The SPE Blow Molding Division’s School Grant Program offers assistance to educational institutions seeking funding for the purchase of blow molding equipment or certain educational resources pertaining to blow molding when funds are available.  Eligible items would include: machinery, tooling, auxiliary equipment, instrumentation, controls, finishing equipment, software, and training or educational modules.  Eligible institutions include Accredited Universities, Community Colleges, and Vocational Schools. For more information, please click here.

Undergraduate Scholarships

The Blow Molding Division of the Society of Plastics Engineers awards two annual scholarships to selected students enrolled in Plastics Engineering programs.  The SPE is an organization dedicated to promoting the scientific and educational aspects of the plastics engineering profession. The Blow Molding Division provides a forum to promote, communicate and disseminate knowledge relating to the Art and Science of Blow Molding technology.

 The value of the scholarships is $3,000.00.  The award recipients will be recognized at the SPE Annual Blow Molding Conference.  A travel allowance for the recipients to attend the conference is available.

W. Müller Blow Molding Scholarship

The SPE Blow Molding Division awards the W. Müller Blow Molding Scholarship on behalf of W. MÜLLER USA Inc.  W. MÜLLER USA Inc. has pledged to support this scholarship with an annual donation of $3000.  This scholarship is in honor of the company’s founder, Willi MÜLLER, who was inducted in the Plastics Hall of Fame (posthumously) in 2013 for his many contributions to the Blow Molding Industry.  

Qualifications for the W. Müller Scholarship are as follows:

1.      The student must be enrolled full time in a degreed undergraduate Plastics Engineering or Plastic Engineering Technology program.

2.      The student will have at least a 3.0 overall grade-point average (4.0 scale).

3.      The student must be a member of an SPE Student Chapter.

4.      Preference will be given to the student with experience in the extrusion blow molding industry (Courses completed, research conducted, or jobs held).

5.      The applicant will submit a brief essay with their application describing the importance of Extrusion blow molding to the technical parts and packaging industry.


Carrie Fox Solin Memorial Scholarship

The SPE Blow Molding Division also awards the Carrie Fox Solin Memorial Scholarship.  This is the first scholarship that was awarded by the SPE Blow Molding Division.  Its inaugural year was 1991 and it’s named in remembrance of Carrie Fox Solin.    Carrie Fox Solin made numerous contributions to the plastics industry and served on SPE Blow Molding Division’s Board of Directors from 1987 until her untimely passing.  The SPE Blow Molding Board of Directors has pledged to support this scholarship with an annual $3000 contribution.

Qualifications for the Carrie Fox Solin Memorial scholarship are as follows:

1.      The student must be enrolled full time in a degreed undergraduate Plastics Engineering or Plastic Engineering Technology program.

2.      The student will have at least a 3.0 overall grade-point average (4.0 scale).

3.      The student must be a member of an SPE Student Chapter.

4.      The student must have already worked, or have an accepted offer to work, as a Co-op or Intern, at a Blow Molding company or company that services the Blow Molding Industry.

5.      The applicant will submit a brief essay with their application describing the importance of blow molding to the technical parts and packaging industry.

We seek students who plan to make a career in plastics engineering (a sincere interest in the Blow Molding industry is a plus). We request that qualifying students submit an application by following the instructions and completing the appropriate forms for the Blow Molding Division Memorial Scholarships at the 
SPE Foundation Website.


SPE Blow Molding Division Annual Student Design Contest

The Society of Plastics Engineers SPE Blow Molding Division conducts an Annual Student Design Contest to promote interest in blow molding applications. A $1,000-1st prize, $750-2nd prize, and $500-3rd prize is awarded to a student or group of students who submit the winning entries.  A travel allowance is also offered so the winner(s) can present their proposal in a poster at either an upcoming SPE Annual Blow Molding Conference or ANTEC.
